I honestly can’t get enough beets and their heart health benefits. This is my sixth beet recipe on the blog, and I’m sure it won’t be the last.

I’ve made beet juice for breakfast and a beet and broccoli salad, for a dinner side dish, but I’ve never used beets in a quick lunch dish!
I’m sure you’ve heard of a tuna salad, well why not make it a little more heart healthy with the addition of some beets?

Why do I keep writing about beets?
Well, high blood pressure can potentially lead to serious health issues like heart attack, stent placement, PAD, or stroke, but the good news is you can change your lifestyle to improve your blood pressure too, like participating in regular exercise, eating less sodium, and eating more beets!
Beets are low in calories and rich in vitamins like folate, manganese, potassium, vitamin C, and antioxidants (1).
Beets are also known to reduce blood pressure due to their high nitrate content, which is converted into nitric oxide in the body, leading to the dilation and relaxation of blood vessels, thereby improving blood flow and thus blood pressure (2,3). Pretty neat, eh?
So Why Make This Beetroot And Tuna Salad?
It uses simple ingredients and it’s easy to put together!
You know what’s even easier?
You don’t have to whisk a complicated dressing for this beetroot and tuna salad! Just add a touch of mayonnaise (see this post for or the best mayonnaise for high cholesterol) or drizzle of olive oil, and you’re all set.

Beetroot And Tuna Salad
Ingredients
- 2 beets
- 1 can tuna
- 1 stalk celery diced
- 1/4 red pepper diced
- 1/4 avocado
- 1 green onion
- 1 tbsp mayonnaise
- 1/8 tsp pepper
Instructions
- Prepare the Beets: Peel and roughly chop the beets into 1-inch cubes. Boil in water until tender, then set aside to cool.
- Chop and Mix: Dice the celery, red pepper, green onion, and avocado. In a bowl, mix these with the drained tuna until well combined and the texture is to your liking.
- Combine and Season: Add the cooled beets to your tuna mixture. Drizzle with mayonnaise or olive oil, then gently toss everything together to coat evenly.
- Garnish and Serve: Top your salad with extra slices of green onion and avocado. Add a dash of pepper to taste and serve either chilled or at room temperature.
